Introduction:
In my work I want to investigate the global consequences of plastic packaging, tire abrasion, toxic chemicals, and the overproduction of consumer goods. It's important to take a critical look at the current condition of our planet. Creating powerful artworks that are not only beautiful, but also serve as a stark reminder of the impact of our waste on the planet and its inhabitants and inspire us to rethink our own consumption is so powerful to me. In my work I want to surprise people at first, as we aren't prepared for the disruption to our regular spaces, and then as our interest is piqued, we explore the details: materials, message, emotions, experience.
Vacuum packing bags are sturdy and 100% plastic and are airtight. Vacuum packaging that is used to cover food to protect it from drying out if it has to be stored for a longer period of time, for example if the food has been prepared in advance or if something is left over. Products such as meat and fish, but also vegetables and other food are packaged with this. When you use these bags, the air is sucked out of the plastic bags until the last bit. The bag is vacuumed with little effort. this. With these actions you take away oxygen work. I have used these characteristics together. I packed two 'living' sawn-off tree pieces in two separate vacuum bags. And that this tree needs to live is taken by afterwards all the oxygen away by vacuuming the bags. With the vacuum bags I have packed new life in contrast with dead nature so that these can be kept longer and are protected against dying. Be protected against destruction by plastic pollution. Longer ex- piration date / protected against extinction, drying out. Protected against "humans".
Here used a strong paradox; use plastic for protection against plastic, plastic in contrast with nature. Life and death. Protecting life through death. Because oxygen is taken from these natural elements, they therefore also represent death / the dead. Death is an irreversible condition in which a previously living or- ganism no longer grows and has no metabolism or other active life functions. By placing these two bags a legible image is created, the image of a body washed ashore.
